Surah Al Hajj Ayat 78 Translation Tafseer

Para 17 - اِقْتَرَبَ لِلنَّاسِ

سورة الحج

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ

22.78

وَ جَاهِدُوْا فِی اللّٰهِ حَقَّ جِهَادِهٖؕ-هُوَ اجْتَبٰىكُمْ وَ مَا جَعَلَ عَلَیْكُمْ فِی الدِّیْنِ مِنْ حَرَجٍؕ-مِلَّةَ اَبِیْكُمْ اِبْرٰهِیْمَؕ-هُوَ سَمّٰىكُمُ الْمُسْلِمِیْنَ ﳔ مِنْ قَبْلُ وَ فِیْ هٰذَا لِیَكُوْنَ الرَّسُوْلُ شَهِیْدًا عَلَیْكُمْ وَ تَكُوْنُوْا شُهَدَآءَ عَلَى النَّاسِ ۚۖ-فَاَقِیْمُوا الصَّلٰوةَ وَ اٰتُوا الزَّكٰوةَ وَ اعْتَصِمُوْا بِاللّٰهِؕ-هُوَ مَوْلٰىكُمْۚ-فَنِعْمَ الْمَوْلٰى وَ نِعْمَ النَّصِیْرُ۠ (78)

Kanz-ul-Irfan

And perform Jihad in the way of Allah as it should be performed for His sake. He chose you and did not create any hardship for you in the religion like the religion of your father Ibrāhīm. He named you Muslims[1] ˹in the˺ earlier ˹scriptures˺ and in this ˹Quran˺ so that the Messenger may be a witness over you and you may be witnesses over the people. So establish the prayer, give zakat, and hold fast to the rope of Allah; He is your Guardian—what an excellent guardian and what an excellent helper is He!

Commentary

In the previous books and the Quran, Allah Almighty has labelled those who believe in the Beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم as Muslims, and through this honourable name, He has granted them superiority over the other nations. Even though the believers from the previous nations were also Muslims (in nature), however, in terms of the description of the nation, this name has been conferred upon those who believe in the Beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم.
