Do you see? When only one Being possesses such a status, mentioning the name is not necessary. Therefore, when Allah Almighty mentioned the status of Sayyidunā Ādam عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلاَم, He mentioned the name; when He mentioned the status of Sayyidunā Nūh عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلاَم, He mentioned the name; when He mentioned the status of Sayyidunā Ibrahīm عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلاَم, He mentioned the name; when He mentioned the status of Sayyidunā Mūsā عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلاَم, He mentioned the name; and when He mentioned the status of Sayyidunā Ῑsa عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلاَم, He mentioned the name. However, when it came to the turn of that illustrious Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم, He did not mention the name but instead said:

    وَ رَفَعَ بَعْضَهُمْ دَرَجٰتٍؕ-

and He elevated one (above all) in rank.[1]

It is as if it is being explained that there is only one Prophet who is the most superior; therefore, even if the name is not mentioned, the mind goes in only one direction. Everyone understands that the Prophet with countless and magnificent ranks is Sayyidunā Muhammad صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم, and he is the most superior of all.[2]

What Virtue was Granted to the Beloved One?

Sayyidunā Salman al-Fārsi رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ is a famous Companion of the Messenger. He narrates that once someone came to the Beloved Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم and said: "O Messenger of Allah صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم! Allah Almighty spoke to Sayyidunā Mūsā عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلاَم; Sayyidunā Ῑsa عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلاَم was created via the Rūh-ul-Qudus (meaning by His complete power without a father); Sayyidunā Ibrahīm عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلاَم was made His Khalil (Friend); and Sayyidunā Ādam عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلاَم was granted greatness. What special virtue was granted to you?"
