of the Beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم because the Noble Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم also had a few white hairs at the front of his blessed beard.”[1]
سُـبْحٰـنَ الـلّٰــه ! Sayyidunā Imam Ḥusain رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ was the grandson of the Messenger صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم. His physical appearance already resembled that of the Beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم, and alongside this, he would ensure that his habits and manners also mirrored those of the Beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم.
Observing Sunnah in Blessed Clothing
The tailor of Sayyidunā Imam Ḥusain رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ, from whom he had his clothes stitched, says that he asked the exalted Imam رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ, “Should I keep the length of the garment down to the feet?”
He replied, “No.”
I asked, “Should I let it fall below the ankles?”
He replied, "مَا اَسْفَلَ مِنَ الْکَعْبَیْنِ فِی النَّارِ"—meaning, “the cloth that hangs below the ankles is in the Fire.”[2]
Dear Islamic brothers! It is clear that the exalted Imam رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ was a strict adherent of the Sunnah. The Sunnah regarding clothing is that the lower garment should remain above the ankles. The exalted Imam رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ observed this strictly. Now, those who claim to love Imam Ḥusain should reflect upon their own attire: do we observe Sunnah in our clothing, or do we follow modern fashion? Is an Ꜥimāmah adorned on our heads according to the Sunnah or not? Is our lower garment above the ankles, or, due to an excessive love for modern fashion, is it hanging below the ankles?
