following in relation to when Imam Ḥusain رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ was traveling towards Karbala:
I saw tents pitched in a desolate area. I was surprised and asked someone, “Whose tents are these?" The person replied, "These belong to Imam Ḥusain رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ " (he had stopped there on the way to Karbala). So, I moved forward to attain the honour of meeting Imam Ḥusain رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ. As I reached the tent, I saw that Sayyidunā Imam Ḥusain رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ was reciting the Quran and tears were streaming from his eyes.[1]
سُـبْحٰـنَ الـلّٰــه ! What an exalted status Sayyidunā Imam Ḥusain رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ has! He would recite the holy Quran with such a magnificence that tenderness would fill his heart, and he was overcome with fear of Allah and love for Him. His tongue would be occupied with recitation, and tears would be flowing from his eyes out of love and fear.
Crying while reciting is a sign of great fortune
Certainly, reciting the Holy Quran and listening to its recitation is a great honour, and in fact, a deed of great virtue. If, during recitation or while listening to the recitation, a state of spiritual ecstasy takes over, the heart overflows with love for Allah, one feels a sense of restlessness, one experiences trembling from the fear of Allah, and tears flow from the eyes, then مَا شَـآءَ اللّٰه! Such recitation has a truly magnificent status. Allah Almighty has mentioned the attributes of His righteous servants in the holy Quran:
