Sayyidunā IsmāꜤīl عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلاَم are mentioned:
The first attribute is:
اِنَّهٗ كَانَ صَادِقَ الْوَعْدِ
He was true to his word.[1]
This is a very distinguished quality. He was so truthful in fulfilling his promises that it is written in books that whenever Sayyidunā IsmāꜤīl عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلاَم made a promise to someone, he would certainly fulfil it, no matter how difficult it was to do so.[2]
Sayyidunā Sufyān Thawrī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه narrates:
Once, Sayyidunā IsmāꜤīl عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلاَم passed near a town with one of his friends. His friend said, “O noble one! Either you go into the town and buy something, or remain here and I will bring whatever you require.” Sayyidunā IsmāꜤīl عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلاَم said, “I will sit here; you go and do the shopping.” The man went into the town, did his shopping, and completely forgot that Sayyidunā IsmāꜤīl عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلاَم was waiting for him. He then left by another route. Several days passed after this incident.
One day, he happened to pass by that place again and saw that Sayyidunā IsmāꜤīl عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلاَم was still there. He asked in amazement, “Are you still here?” He replied, “I promised to wait for you; how could I leave until you returned?”
Similarly, on another occasion, he promised someone that he would meet them at a certain place. He arrived there at the appointed time, but the other
