صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم said:
Each of you is a guardian, and every one of you will be questioned about those under your care. A ruler is a guardian and will be questioned about his subjects. A man is a guardian over his family, and he will be questioned about them.[1]
Punishment despite hating films
Mufti Aminرَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه wrote a thought provoking incident:
There were two friends in Arabia; one lived in Riyadh and the other lived in Jeddah. The friend in Riyadh passed away. After some time, the friend in Jeddah saw him in a dream, suffering punishment. When asked the reason, he said: "I hated films and dramas. However, my children were stubborn, so I arranged for sinful programs to be shown at home. Since I entered the grave, I am facing punishment because of them. Brother, have mercy on me! Advise my family not to watch sinful channels."
The friend from Jeddah went to Riyadh and told the dream to the family. اَلْـحَمْـدُ لـِلّٰـه They understood and repented from watching sinful programs. The following night, he saw his friend in a good state, smiling and saying: اَلْـحَمْـدُ لـِلّٰـه The punishment has been lifted from me.[2]
Dear Islamic brothers! Reflect upon this! The Holy Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم clearly stated that everyone will be questioned about their family. This incident also contains many lessons for those who take heed. We should adopt the character of Sayyidunā IsmāꜤīl عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلاَم, the prophet in whose memory we perform qurbani. We should invite our families and children to righteousness, encourage them to avoid sins, and motivate them to perform good deeds.
