Offering Salah in Congregation is Compulsory
There is no doubt that going to the masjid, loving it, taking an interest in it, and offering the five prayers regularly in congregation is a sign of a pious person. Allah Almighty states:
وَ اَقِیْمُوا الصَّلٰوةَ وَ اٰتُوا الزَّكٰوةَ وَ ارْكَعُوْا مَعَ الرّٰكِعِیْنَ(۴۳)
And establish the prayer, give zakat, and bow in the prayer with those who bow.[1]
The famous commentator of the Quran, Mufti Aḥmad Yār Khān NaꜤīmī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه explains: "This means that you should offer prayer in congregation, because a prayer offered in congregation is 27 times superior than a prayer offered alone." [2]
Our Beloved Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم and Congregational Prayer
The mother of the believers, Sayyidatunā ꜤAˈisha Ṣiddīqah رَضِیَ اللهُ عَنْهَا narrates:
When the Merciful Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم was severely ill, Sayyidunā Bilāl رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْه came to inform him about the time of prayer. The Beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم said: “Tell Abū Bakr to lead the people in prayer.” When Sayyidunā Abū Bakr رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْه was leading the prayer, the Beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم felt some improvement in his condition. He stood up and, supported by two men, went to the masjid, such that his blessed feet were dragging on the ground.
