Earn Profit for the Hereafter in Exchange for Worldly Wealth
O devotees of the Companions and Prophetic Household! We admire the passion of Sayyidunā Zubayr b. al-ꜤAwwāmرَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ for earning the Hereafter in exchange for worldly wealth. If only we would also stop thinking only about worldly profit and loss.
Would that we think about the profit and loss of the Hereafter. I wish we could follow in the footsteps of our pious predecessors, especially the noble Companions رَضِیَ اللهُ عَنْهُم. They were examples of knowledge and action. They fulfilled obligatory and compulsory acts and practiced the Sunnah. They used to recite the Holy Quran, were fond of fasting, and spent their time seeking the pleasure of Allah. Along with these things, those who could afford it would give charity in abundance. In this way, they followed the commands of Allah Almighty and remained busy preparing for the Hereafter.
We have just heard a little about Sayyidunā Zubayr b. al-ꜤAwwām رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ. Let us now briefly hear some more about his blessed life:
The Mention of Sayyidunā Zubayr b. al-ꜤAwwām رَضِىَ اللهُ عَـنْهُ
He is one of those ten fortunate Companionsرَضِیَ اللهُ عَنْهُم who were given the good news of Paradise by the Greatest Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم. The Beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم stood on the pulpit and called out their names one by one, giving them the news of being people of Paradise. Sayyidunā Zubayr b. al-ꜤAwwām رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ is one of those ten lucky people. He is the son of Sayyidatunā Ṣafiyyah رَضِیَ اللهُ عَنْهَا, who was the paternal aunt of the Beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم.[1]
His name is Zubayr and his father's name is ꜤAwwām. He was the fourth or fifth person to accept Islam.[2]
During the Battle of Khandaq, Sayyidunā Zubayr b. al-ꜤAwwāmرَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ brought news about the activities of the tribe of Banī Qurayẓah. The Merciful Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم was pleased with this achievement and said: "Every Prophet has a Ḥawārī (meaning a very loyal friend), and my Ḥawārī is Zubayr."[3]
