Many hours, rather entire nights, are wasted in chit-chat, and the remaining damage has been done by mobile phones and social media There was a time when naive children would secretly play video games hiding from their parents. There was no access to it at home, so children would go to shops outside, and even then, there was the fear that father might see, or some relative might see and tell someone about me.
Now the situation is that parents themselves buy video game equipment for their children. In fact, now they play themselves too. Strange and weird types of character-spoiling games have popped up. Whether children or youth, kids or parents, everyone is engaged in them. They keep watching posts on Facebook and YouTube, watching reels and shorts. They continue doom scrolling and many hours are spent in these useless things. Nights pass by, sleep is neglected, health deteriorates, and tasks meant to be done are left incomplete.
Dear Islamic brothers! Believe me! Engaging in useless matters and wasting time is contrary to the honour of a Muslim. There is no such word as "leisure" in the life of a true Muslim. In our society, people often say, "I was free, so I started doing this to entertain myself," or "I am just passing the time," etc. This is not the way of the believers. A Muslim can never ever be free. Qadi Shurayḥ رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه once saw two individuals engaging in a futile activity, he said: اَلْفَارِغُ مَا اُمِرَ بِھَذَا meaning, a free person has not been commanded to do this. Allah Almighty states:[1]
