When a non-Muslim recited the Kalimah
ꜤAbd al-Wāḥid b. Zaid states:
Once, I was on a sea voyage, suddenly strong winds began to blow, and those winds pushed us towards a desolate island. When we disembarked on that island, we saw a person there who was busy worshipping other than Allah. We said: We will not take such a polytheist on board with us. The polytheist asked: Whom do you worship? We said: Allah Almighty. He asked: Who is Allah? We replied: The One whose throne is above the heavens and whose dominion is (also) upon the earth. The polytheist asked: How did you come to know about Him? We said: Allah Almighty sent a Messenger of His, he showed miracles, and the very same chosen Messenger صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم gave us the news of Allah Almighty. The polytheist said: Then what happened to your Messenger? We said: When he had fully conveyed the message of Allah Almighty to us, the Merciful Lord called him back to Himself. The polytheist asked: Do you have any sign of his with you? We replied: Yes! We have the Book of Allah. He said: Bring it! Show it to me!
So, we showed him the Holy Quran. After looking at it, he said: I do not know how to read this. Therefore, we read it aloud to him.
!اللہ! اللہ What a unique glory the Holy Quran has; as soon as we recited it, the sacred words of the glorious Quran acted as an arrow of impact and pierced his heart. He continued listening to the recitation and kept weeping; eventually, he said: The Being whose word this is, it is His right that He should not be disobeyed. Saying this, the polytheist recited the Kalimah and became a Muslim.
Following this, we took him on board on our ship. On the way, we also taught him a Surah of the Holy Quran. When night fell, we all headed towards our beds. The new Muslim asked: O people! The Allah Almighty, you introduced me to, does He sleep as well? We said: No, He is the Ever-Living, the Sustainer; neither slumber nor sleep overtakes Him. Hearing this, the new Muslim said: It is disrespectful for a servant to remain asleep in front of his Master. Saying this, he stood up, and remained standing and weeping all night until morning dawned.
