whatever pious deeds I have been able to do, whether they were accepted or will be thrown back at my face, I do not know.”[1]

Dear Islamic brothers! This too is a sign of perfect faith; the stronger a person's faith is, the more the fear of Allah dominates them. Would that we too are blessed with the treasure of the fear of Allah.

To develop the fear of Allah Almighty within oneself: make it a routine to recite the Holy Quran, especially those verses in which there is a mention of the torment of Allah Almighty, of Hell, and of the Day of Judgement. By reading their translation and commentary, keeping them in mind, those verses should be recited repeatedly with deep attention. The fear of Allah is also mentioned in aḥādiṭh; such aḥādiṭh should be read. Books based on the fear of Allah Almighty should be studied. The biographies of the pious predecessors who possessed the fear of Allah Almighty should be read. At least once a week, one should visit the graveyard, recite Fātiḥa there, and alongside this, reflect upon the fact that soon I too have to descend into the grave; what will be the state of my helplessness at that time?

Then the matters of the grave should also be pondered over. Sometimes the thought of presenting oneself before Allah Almighty on the Day of Judgement comes to mind, sometimes the thought of Hell comes; this thought only lasts for a few seconds. These thoughts are attained by continually reading about the fear of Allah Almighty, and continually listening to speeches, etc., related to the fear of Allah Almighty. Then, when these thoughts begin to come to the heart, it is essential that these thoughts be made firm in the heart. For example, while sitting in solitude every night, one should visualise the grave and the hereafter, and repeatedly visit the graveyard. Thus, by repeatedly establishing the visualisation of thoughts related to the fear of Allah Almighty, ان شاءاللہ الکریم! Gradually, these thoughts will become firm in the heart.
