Sayyidi Qutb-e-Madinah رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه stated: “The people of Madinah in the past were like this.”[1]
صَلُّوۡا عَلَى الۡحَبِيۡب صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلٰى مُحَمَّد
(4): A perfect believer is the one who has the fear of Allah
Dear Islamic brothers! Among the signs of a perfect believer, an important sign is also the fear of Allah Almighty. Allah Almighty states:
اِنَّ الَّذِیْنَ هُمْ مِّنْ خَشْیَةِ رَبِّهِمْ مُّشْفِقُوْنَۙ(۵۷)
Indeed those who are in awe of their Lord.[2]
It is mentioned in Tafsīr Ṣirāṭ al-Jinān: “Meaning, one of the attributes of the believers is that they remain fearful of the torment of their Lord.”[3]
Imam Ḥasan al-Baṣri’s fear of Allah Almighty
Imam Ḥasan al-Baṣrī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه was a great saint of Allah Almighty and one with perfect faith. Allamah Ibn al-Jauzi رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه writes about him:
When Imam Ḥasan al-Baṣrī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه would arrive, it seemed as if he had returned from the burial of a close friend. He would live as if fire was hanging over his head. He would sit like a prisoner whose neck was about to be struck. He would spend his morning in a state as if he had just passed through the horrors of the Day of Judgement. Once, someone asked him about his condition, he replied: “A person whose ship shatters in the middle of the ocean would be in a better state than me.” He was asked: “Why so?” He replied: “I am a sinful servant, and
