(Clarification of the correct Islamic ruling and addressing a common misunderstanding.)
Ruling: Congratulating others on the arrival of Ramadan is permissible. Yet, the claim that Paradise becomes obligatory because of this is not found in any Hadith.
Explanation: Usually, when the blessed month of Ramadan arrives, a message circulates on social media stating something like this: “It is mentioned in a Hadith that whoever is the first to congratulate others on the arrival of Ramadan, Paradise becomes obligatory for him.”
Ramadan is undoubtedly a blessed and honourable month, and it is permissible to express happiness upon its arrival, congratulate others, and even hope for reward for doing so. It is even possible that by rejoicing at the arrival of
