Masjid) in every masjid he would pass by. With the intention of publicising this divine favour, he رَحْمَۃُ اللہِ تَعَالٰی عَلَیْہِ said, “I have completed the Holy Quran and implored Allah Almighty next to every pillar of JāmiꜤ Masjid.”

He رَحْمَۃُ اللہِ تَعَالٰی عَلَیْہِ had a special love for salah and the recitation of the Holy Quran. He was granted such blessings that one cannot help but feel astonished. It is narrated that: “Whenever people would pass by his blessed resting place, the sound of the Holy Quran being recited could be heard from his it.”^[1]     

Competing in reciting the Holy Quran

One night, Shaykh Bahā al-Dīn Zakariyyā Multānī رَحْمَۃُ اللہِ تَعَالٰی عَلَیْہِ said to his friends, “Is there anyone among you who would offer two units of salah tonight and recite the entire Quran in one unit?” None of them responded. Shaykh Bahā al-Dīn Zakariyyā رَحْمَۃُ اللہِ تَعَالٰی عَلَیْہِ stood up himself and started offering 2 units of salah. In the first unit, he recited the entire Quran with along with 4 additional juz; and in the second unit, he recited Surah Ikhlas and completed his salah.^[2]

صَلُّوا عَلَی الْحَبِیْب!           صَلَّی اللہُ تَعَالٰی عَلٰی مُحَمَّد

O devotees of the Awliya! You have heard how eagerly the righteous servants of Allah Almighty would recite the Holy Quran day and night. They loved the sacred book so much that they would complete reciting it within a very short span of time. But unfortunately, most Muslims nowadays are unaware of the Quran’s teachings. Some unfortunate people do not even know how to recite the Holy Quran even by looking at it, and even those who know how to recite it do not open the Holy Quran for many years.

Many months pass by and the houses of Muslims remain deprived of the blessings of the recitation of the Holy Quran. Let us make an intention today that while acting upon these hadiths and adopting the practices of the righteous predecessors, we will not only start reciting the Holy Quran
