because he did not act upon the order of the king despite reading it.

So, the Holy Quran is also like that letter, in which Allah Almighty has commanded His servants to fulfil the pillars of Islam, such as offering salah, observing fasts, etc. If people only recite the Holy Quran and do not act upon the commandments of Allah Almighty, then their recitation of the Holy Quran is not beneficial in the true sense.[1]

صَلُّوا عَلَی الْحَبِیْب!           صَلَّی اللہُ تَعَالٰی عَلٰی مُحَمَّد

Command of reciting the Holy Quran and its requirements

O devotees of the Prophet! The way we have been commanded to recite the Holy Quran and there have been numerous virtues mentioned for it in hadiths to persuade us, similarly, we have also been commanded to act upon its commandments.

There have been severe warnings mentioned for those who do not act upon the commandments of the Holy Quran. Along with reading the translation of Quran, Kanz al-Īmān, we should also read its commentary Ṣirāt al-Jinān/Khazāˈin al-ꜤIrfān or Nūr al-ꜤIrfān. Reflecting over the Holy Quran and comprehending it is a superior act of worship.

Just as Imam Muḥammad al-Ghazālī رَحْمَۃُ اللہِ تَعَالٰی عَلَیْہِ states: “Reciting one Quranic verse while comprehending and contemplating is better than reciting the entire Quran without contemplating it.”[2]  

Punishment of not acting upon the Holy Quran

It is narrated by the righteous predecessors رَحِمَهُمُ الـلّٰـهُ:

At times, a person starts reciting a Surah and the angels continue making dua for his mercy until he recites it completely. Sometimes, a person starts reciting a Surah and the angels keep cursing him until he
