The People of Taqwa
وَ لَقَدۡ وَصَّیۡنَا الَّذِیۡنَ اُوۡتُوا الۡکِتٰبَ مِنۡ قَبۡلِکُمۡ وَ اِیَّاکُمۡ اَنِ اتَّقُوا اللّٰہَ ؕ
Translation from Kanz al-Īmān: ‘And we have indeed emphasised to those who received the Books before you, and to you; that remain fearful of Allah.’”[1]
O devotees of the Messenger! Think this over! Allah is the Creator of the Universe. He is Most Merciful to His people, and He advised them to fear Him. If there was something that provided more goodness and benefit, Allah would have emphasised that instead. However, He advised the previous and forthcoming nations to adopt taqwā. From this, we learn that taqwā is the greatest quality one can possess.
The beloved of the Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم
Umm al-Muʾminīn Sayyidatunā ʿĀisha رَضِیَ اللّٰهُ عَنْها said, “The Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم was never pleased by anything from this world. Nobody pleased him except for a person of taqwā.”[2]
صَلُّوۡا عَلَى الۡحَبِيۡب صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلٰى مُحَمَّد
It is said in the Quran:
اِنَّ اَکۡرَمَکُمۡ عِنۡدَ اللّٰہِ اَتۡقٰکُمۡ ؕ
Translation from Kanz al-Īmān: “Indeed, the most honourable amongst you, according to Allah, is the one who is most pious amongst you.”[3]
From this verse, we learn how lineage is not the basis of excellence in the court of Allah. It is taqwā which earns a person this. Every Muslim
