will be far away from me in the Hereafter will be the one from amongst you who has the worst of manners.’[1]
Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ has narrated that the Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم said, ‘The most beloved people to me are those amongst you who are best in manners, soft-hearted, those who love people and those whom are loved by people, and amongst you the most disliked people to me are the talebearers, who sow the seeds of discord between two friends and find faults in those people with a righteous character.’[2]
صَلُّوۡا عَلَى الۡحَبِيۡب صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلٰى مُحَمَّد
Dear Islamic brothers, you have heard the blessings of having good character. The person who is good-mannered succeeds in both this world and the Hereafter, whereas the one who is ill-mannered is not liked by anyone. He is considered bad in the world, and disgrace could be destined for him in the Hereafter.
Narrating the signs of good character, Sayyiduna Imam Ghazali رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه has said: The embodiment of good character is that person who is the most modest, does not harm anyone, performs righteous deeds, speaks the truth, speaks little, is habitual of practising good deeds, prevents himself from mistakes as much as possible, avoids useless speech, is righteous, dignified, tolerant, content with the will of Allah Almighty, thankful, soft-hearted, of pure character, and affectionate. He should not be one who curses, swears, backbites, is hasty, bears malice, stingy and jealous, rather he should be cheerful, and he should love and hate only for the sake of Allah Almighty and be pleased and displeased with someone for the sake of Allah Almighty.[3]
