Hilm e Mustafa

Book Name:Hilm e Mustafa

means to suppress the anger by your own nature.[1] Meaning, to suppress anger when a person is filled with it is called forbearance. Remember, anger is in the human nature and a matter where we have no power; we are not responsible for it, but to become uncontrollable due to being angry is a bad deed. Therefore, whenever we become angry, we should suppress it by displaying forbearance. Suppressing one’s anger and remaining patient has countless virtues. Let us listen to two blessed sayings of the beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم in this regard:

1.   ‘The strongest one amongst you is the one who controls himself when filled with anger, and the most tolerant is the one who despite having power, forgives.’[2]

2.   ‘Seek honour and piety from Allah Almighty.’ The blessed companions رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُم humbly asked, ‘How?’ It was said, ‘Maintain ties with those who break ties with you, bestow upon those who deprive you, and adopt tolerance before those who treat you ignorantly.’[3]

Dear Islamic brothers, have you noticed the extent to which we have been persuaded to have tolerance in the blessed Hadith! We should also make efforts to adopt this noble quality. In the beginning, it may be difficult, but things will get easier by paying attention and making an effort. The Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم has said, ‘Knowledge is obtained by learning; forbearance is developed by virtue of displaying tolerance, and one who tries to attain goodness is given goodness, and one who wants to be safe from evil is saved.’[4]

We should ponder over the part of this blessed Hadees, ‘Forbearance is developed by virtue of displaying tolerance’ and make an intention that
