1. Ameer al-Mumineen, Sayyiduna ‘Umar Faruq Al-A’zam رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ used to kiss the Quran in the morning every day and say, “This is the covenant of my Lord and His Book.”[1]
2. It is preferable (mustahab) to recite Ta’awwuz when beginning recitation, and it is Sunnah to recite Tasmiyah at the beginning of a Surah, otherwise it is preferable (mustahab).[2]
3. It is preferable (mustahab) to recite the Qur’an in a state of wudu, facing the Qiblah, and whilst wearing nice clothing.[3]
4. Reciting the Quran by looking at it is better than reciting it from memory, because not only does this involve reciting the Quran, but it also includes looking at the Quran and touching it, both of which are acts of worship.[4]
5. The Quran should be recited in a beautiful voice. A person who does not have a beautiful voice should try to beautify it when reciting. However, it is impermissible to recite in a melodious tone that causes letters to be removed or added, like the way singers do. Take utmost care in upholding the rules of tajweed when reciting.[5]
6. It is better to recite the Quran in an audible voice as long as it does not cause trouble for somebody who is praying, asleep or ill.[6]
