Dear Islamic brothers, اِنْ شَــآءَالـلّٰـه, in today’s weekly sunnah-inspired ijtima, we will listen to some accounts regarding the modesty of the pious predecessors.

The modesty of Sayyiduna Uthman  رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ

Umm al-Mumineen, Sayyidatuna Aisha Siddiqa رَضِیَ اللهُ عَنْهَا narrates:

The Messenger of Allah صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم was once on his bed whilst covered in my shawl. During this time, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr  رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ  sought permission to enter, so the Messenger of Allah صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم granted him permission. He beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم   fulfilled his need and then he left; this was all whilst he صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم   remained wrapped in the shawl. Then, Sayyiduna Umar رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ sought permission from him, so the Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم   gave him permission and fulfilled his need too. Thus, he also left, and the Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم remained in the shawl.

Then, Sayyiduna Uthman رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ sought permission to enter, but when he came, the Messenger of Allah صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم sat up and said to Sayyidatuna Aisha  رَضِیَ اللهُ عَنْهَا , “Take your shawl.” Thereafter, the Prophet fulfilled his need too, and he also left. Umm al-Mumineen Sayyidatuna Aisha رَضِیَ اللهُ عَنْهَا commented, “O Messenger of Allah  صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم ! You did not make the same arrangements with Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and Sayyiduna Umar رَضِىَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا as you did with Sayyiduna Uthman  رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ .” The Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم replied, “Uthman is a very modest person; if I were to give him permission in that state, then I fear that his need would remain unfulfilled (i.e., he would have returned without mentioning anything).”^[1]

صَلُّوۡا عَلَى الۡحَبِيۡب                 صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلٰى مُحَمَّد
