Consequence of making friendship out of greed for wealth

On page 218 of ‘Hirs’ a book published by Maktaba-tul-Madinah the publishing department of Dawat-e-Islami, it is mentioned: A poor man had three sons. Whatever he would earn he would spend on himself and his sons. One of his sons was not happy with the simple food and poverty of his father. That’s why he made a friendship with a rich man and started visiting his home in order to eat lavish food. One day, the rich friend got displeased with him due to something. Due to the arrogance of his wealth the rich friend beat him a lot and broke his teeth. Then making repentance in his heart the poor friend started saying: The simple food which my father gives me with love is better than the morsel of this beating and disgrace. If I had not become greedy for lavish food and drink, I would not have been beaten so much and would not have lost my teeth today. (Hirs, pp. 218)

صَلُّوۡا عَلَى الۡحَبِيۡب     صَلَّى اللّٰهُ تَعَالٰى عَلٰى مُحَمَّد

Dear Islamic sisters! The above-mentioned parable contains the Madani pearls of admonition especially for Islamic sisters who risk their Hereafter, suffer great losses and then regret later on due to greed for wealth or position and rank. Remember! We will surely get the amount of sustenance Allah Almighty has written for us, therefore safety lies in it that we should learn how to be content with that much with which Allah Almighty has blessed us. Remove even the thought of the greed for more from our hearts because it is in the human nature that if he acquires enormous wealth, even then he will not abstain from being greedy and he will desire to have more wealth.

The Beloved Rasool صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالٰى عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم has said: The heart of an old man remains young for the love of two things:

1. Love for life and

2. love for wealth. (Sahih Muslim, pp. 403, Hadees 1046)

At another place the Beloved Rasool صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالٰى عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم has said: If the son of Adam has a gold valley, so he will want to have two valleys and no other
