To call blessed Madinah as ‘Yasrib’, is such a bad deed that Islamic scholars رَحِمَهُمُ الـلّٰـهُ تَـعَالٰی have declared it impermissible and a sin to call Madinah Tayyibah as ‘Yasrib’.

In the blessed Fataawa Razawiyyah, A’la Hadrat رَحْمَةُ اللهِ تَعَالٰی عَلَيْه has said: It is impermissible, prohibited and a sin to call Madinah Tayyibah as ‘Yasrib’, and the one who calls it ‘Yasrib’, is a sinner.

The Beloved and Blessed Rasool صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالٰى عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم has said: Repentance is Wajib for the person who calls Madinah ‘Yasrib’. Madinah is ‘Taabah’, Madinah is ‘Taabah’.

Elaborating on Jaami’-us-Sagheer (a famous book of blessed Hadees) ‘Allaamah Munaawi رَحْمَةُ اللهِ تَعَالٰی عَلَيْه has stated: From this Hadees it has been learnt that it is Haraam to call Madinah Tayyibah as ‘Yasrib’ as by saying ‘Yasrib’ we have been commanded to repent and repentance is made due to committing a sin.
