Surah Al Isra Ayat 23 Translation Tafseer

Para 15 - سُبْحٰنَ الَّذِیْۤ

سورة بنى اسراءيل

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ

17.23

وَ قَضٰى رَبُّكَ اَلَّا تَعْبُدُوْۤا اِلَّاۤ اِیَّاهُ وَ بِالْوَالِدَیْنِ اِحْسَانًاؕ-اِمَّا یَبْلُغَنَّ عِنْدَكَ الْكِبَرَ اَحَدُهُمَاۤ اَوْ كِلٰهُمَا فَلَا تَقُلْ لَّهُمَاۤ اُفٍّ وَّ لَا تَنْهَرْهُمَا وَ قُلْ لَّهُمَا قَوْلًا كَرِیْمًا(23)

Kanz-ul-Irfan

And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him, and be kind to (your) parents; if one or both of them reach old age in your presence, then do not even say “Uff!” to them, and do not scold them, and speak to them with courteous words.[1]

Studying this verse and the verse after it will make it clear to every person of understanding that the tremendous message that Islam gives to its followers in terms of treating parents kindly and fulfilling their rights is not to be found in any other religion of the world. In this day and age, often in non-Muslim countries, elderly parents are in a dire state as their children are not prepared to support them in any way whatsoever by caring for them and serving them. It is for this reason that the governments in those countries are compelled to prepare homes where elderly and ailing parents can spend the last days of their lives.
