Surah Al Anfal Ayat 65-66 Translation Tafseer

Para 10 - وَ اعْلَمُوْۤا

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ

8.65-66

یٰۤاَیُّهَا النَّبِیُّ حَرِّضِ الْمُؤْمِنِیْنَ عَلَى الْقِتَالِؕ-اِنْ یَّكُنْ مِّنْكُمْ عِشْرُوْنَ صٰبِرُوْنَ یَغْلِبُوْا مِائَتَیْنِۚ-وَ اِنْ یَّكُنْ مِّنْكُمْ مِّائَةٌ یَّغْلِبُوْۤا اَلْفًا مِّنَ الَّذِیْنَ كَفَرُوْا بِاَنَّهُمْ قَوْمٌ لَّا یَفْقَهُوْنَ(65) اَلْــٴٰـنَ خَفَّفَ اللّٰهُ عَنْكُمْ وَ عَلِمَ اَنَّ فِیْكُمْ ضَعْفًاؕ-فَاِنْ یَّكُنْ مِّنْكُمْ مِّائَةٌ صَابِرَةٌ یَّغْلِبُوْا مِائَتَیْنِۚ-وَ اِنْ یَّكُنْ مِّنْكُمْ اَلْفٌ یَّغْلِبُوْۤا اَلْفَیْنِ بِاِذْنِ اللّٰهِؕ-وَ اللّٰهُ مَعَ الصّٰبِرِیْنَ(66)

Kanz-ul-Irfan

Dear Prophet! Encourage Muslims to perform Jihad. If there will be twenty patient people among you, then they will overpower two hundred. And if there will be one hundred among you, they will overcome one thousand disbelievers, as the disbelievers do not comprehend. Now Allah has lessened ˹it˺ for you[1] and He knows that you are weak.[2] So if there are a hundred patient people among you, then they will triumph over two hundred and if there are one thousand among you, then they will prevail over two thousand with the command of Allah; and Allah is with the patient.

Commentary

This abrogates the previous verse about the necessity of steadfastness against an enemy ten times greater in number; now it is only mandatory to remain steadfast against an enemy that is twice as large.

This does not refer to weakness in faith, rather, it means physical weakness.
