Dear Islamic brothers! We just had the honor of listening to Surat al-Baqara’s 30^th verse, where the fourth rukūꜤ begins. In this entire rukūꜤ, we learn about the creation of Abū al-Bashar, Prophet Ādam عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلاَم, and his arrival on Earth.

This is a very famous event. We often hear about it, and it has been mentioned at various places in the noble Quran in different styles. In relation to this blessed event, the verse we heard highlights an important responsibility given to Prophet Ādam عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلاَم, and through him, to his offspring as well.

Brief commentary of this verse

Allah Almighty announces:

وَ اِذْ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلْمَلٰٓىٕكَةِ

And remember when your Lord said to the Angels,

Throughout the noble Quran, whenever past events are described, Allah Almighty often uses words like وَ اِذْ . This means, “O Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم! Recall (that event).”

In other verses He says: اَلَمْ تَرَ. This means, “O Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم! Have you not seen?”^[1]

Even an ordinary person with basic intellect can understand that such expressions are used when the one being addressed already knows about the event, or has witnessed it with his own blessed eyes. That is why it is said: “Recall that event! The very event you have seen.”

Now reflect from this perspective! This shows how tremendous the status of our beloved Prophetصَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم  truly is.

The event being referred to took place centuries before, at a time when Sayyidunā Ādamعَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلاَم  had not even been created yet.

And still, Allah Almighty is saying: “O Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم! Recall that
