Remaining Madani Pearls regarding Burial

1.It is disliked to put more soil in the grave than the amount that was removed.[1]

2.The grave should not be square-shaped; rather, it should have a dome-like shape, similar to a camel’s hump. After the burial, it is recommended to sprinkle water on the grave. The grave should be a hand-span high or slightly more.[2]

3.Giving the azan at the grave after burial is a good deed and highly beneficial for the deceased.[3]

4.It is recommended to recite the beginning and end of Surah al-Baqarah at the grave after burial; from الٓمّٓ to مُفْلِحُوْن at the head side, and from اٰمَنَ الرَّسُوۡلُ to the end of the surah at the feet side.[4]

5.It is permissible to place a shajarah or ahd nāmah in the grave, and it is better to place it in a niche dug near the deceased’s face on the Qiblah side. It is written in al-Durr al-Mukhtār that writing an ahd nāmah on the shroud is permissible, and there is hope for forgiveness through it.

6.Writing  بِسْمِ اللہِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیۡمِon the chest and forehead of the deceased is permissible. Alternatively, one may write  بِسْمِ اﷲon the forehead and
