Book Name:Sharm o Haya Social Media Ka Ghalat Istimal
The background to this is that Sayyidatuna Fatima al-Zahra رَضِیَ اللهُ عَنْهَا was worried over the fact that all her life, she protected herself from the eyes of non-Mahram men. After her death, may it not be the case that the gaze of people falls on her enshrouded body.
On one occasion, Sayyidatuna Asma bint ‘Umays رَضِیَ اللهُ عَنْهَا said: “I saw in Abyssinia that they tie tree branches over the funeral bier and form a shape of a palanquin. They then place a shawl over it.” Then, she asked for date branches to be brought, joined them together and placed a cloth over them. Thereafter, she showed it to Sayyidatuna Fatima al-Zahra رَضِیَ اللهُ عَنْهَا. Upon this, Sayyidatuna Fatimah رَضِیَ اللهُ عَنْهَا expressed great happiness and a smile appeared on her face. This was the only time she was seen smiling after the apparent demise of the Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم.
Dear Islamic brothers! You have heard that Sayyidatuna Fatima al-Zahra رَضِیَ اللهُ عَنْهَا remained grief-stricken all her life after the apparent passing of the Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم. Despite this, she strictly observed modesty until her last breath. She was only distressed about the sight of a non-Mahram man falling on her shroud after she passes away.[1]
I have lost a son, not modesty!
A similar account is related regarding a female Companion of the Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم , Sayyidatuna Umm Khallaad رَضِیَ اللهُ عَنْهَا. Her son was martyred in one of the battles. In order to enquire about him, she went to the court of the Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم while covering her face and observing veil. Upon this, someone asked her out of astonishment, “You are covering your face even at this time!” She replied, “I have lost my son indeed, but not my modesty.”[2]
O devotees of the Companions and Prophetic Household! You just heard that despite her son being martyred, Sayyidatuna Umm Khallasd رَضِیَ اللهُ عَنْهَا still observed the veil. But alas! Unveiling and immodesty are widespread today. Remember! It is Satan’s desire to unveil women in order to eradicate modesty. Moreover, he wants to embroil men in the harmful act of unlawful gazing so they become deserving of the wrath of Allah Almighty and the punishment of Hell.
Sayyiduna Ma’qil b. Yasaar رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ narrates that the Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم stated, “An iron nail being hammered into your head is better for you than touching a woman who is not halal for you.”[3]
In another narration, it has been mentioned to this extent that the one who shook hands with a non-Mahram woman, on the Day of Judgement, he will come in such a state that his hand will be tied to his neck with a chain of fire.[4]
صَلُّوۡا عَلَى الۡحَبِيۡب صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلٰى مُحَمَّد
Dear Islamic brothers! Social media is like a knife that can be utilised for both good and bad purposes. But unfortunately, social media is being used predominantly for bad purposes in our society. The obscene articles and stories, pictures and such videos that arouse carnal desires have destroyed the character, morals and habits of the younger generation.
