Book Name:Tazeem e Mustafa Kay Waqiaat
Reaching Hudaybiyah, the Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم found the disbelievers of Quraysh preparing to take up arms against the Muslims. On the other hand, Muslims were all in the state of ihram. Taking this into consideration, the Messenger of Allah صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم decided to send someone to Makkah, who may discuss terms of a peaceful truce and amicable resolution.
At first, he chose Sayyidunā ‘Umar Farūq رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ , but due to a specific reason, he decided to send Sayyidunā ‘Uthmān رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ to Makkah instead.
When Sayyidunā ‘Uthmān رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ reached Makkah, he conveyed a message of peace on behalf of the Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم , saying Muslims had not come to fight, but perform umrah instead.
The disbelievers of Quraysh respected Sayyidunā ‘Uthmān رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ to a great degree, as he was not only very wealthy, but also supported his tribe and looked after their matters. Due to this, they did not mistreat him at all. They even said, “We will allow you to perform your umrah, complete with tawaf and sa’ī. However, we will not allow Muḥammad ( صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم ) to come near the Ka’bah.”
Sayyidunā ‘Uthmān رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ completely refused. He declared, “I can never perform umrah without the Messenger of Allah صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم .”[1] Returning to Hudaybiyah, the Companions welcomed him and asked, “O Abū ‘Abd Allah (the title of Sayyidunā ‘Uthmān)! Perhaps you have had the honour of making tawaf (in other words, performing umrah)?”
In a display of his unshakeable love and loyalty, Sayyidunā ‘Uthmān رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ replied:
I take an oath by He Who has power over my soul! If I had stayed in Makkah for an entire year, but the Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم had stayed in Hudaybiyah, I would not have performed the tawaf of
