Book Name:Tazeem e Mustafa Kay Waqiaat

قُرَّتُ عَیْنِی بِکَ یَا رَسُولَ اللَّہِ اللّٰہُمَّ مَتِّعْنِی بِالسَّمْعِ وَالْبَصَرِ

On both occasions, when the sacred name ‘Muhammad’ is mentioned, the listeners should kiss their thumbs and place them upon their eyes. Whoever does this will be taken into Paradise by the Messenger of Allah  صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم .

Referencing Kitāb al-Firdaws, ‘Allamah Shāmi رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه quotes this hadith of the Prophet  صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم : “I shall lead whoever kisses the nails of his thumbs after hearing ‘اَشْھَدُ اَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَّسُوْلُ اللّٰہِ’ during azan, and I shall include him in the rows of Paradise.”[1]

Once someone asked Imam Ahmad Raza Khan رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه regarding this, and a summary of his reply was:

We should most definitely kiss our thumbs when hearing the name of the Prophet  صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم . Scholars have even declared this to be recommended (mustaḥab) during azan. Kissing of the thumbs during azan has also been described in hadith. However, we cannot kiss our thumbs upon hearing his sacred name in three specific circumstances; when offering salah, or when hearing it during a khutbah or recitation of the Quran.[2]

صَلُّوۡا عَلَى الۡحَبِيۡب             صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلٰى مُحَمَّد

Regarding the blessed names ‘Muhammad’ and ‘Ahmad’, ‘Allamah Muhammad Amjad ‘Ali A’zami رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه has said:
