Hilm e Mustafa

Book Name:Hilm e Mustafa

It is reported that on the day Makkah was conquered, when the disbelievers and Satan were humiliated and dishonoured along with their followers , the Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم inquired from the people of Makkah, “O Quraysh! What do you think, how will I treat you?” They humbly said: ‘نَظُنُّ خَيۡرًا’ i.e., “We expect goodness (from the Prophet), ‘نَبِيُّ كَرِيۡمٌ وَ اَخٌ كَرِيۡمُ وَ ابۡنُ اَخٍ كَرِيۡمٍ وَ قَدۡ قُدِرۡتَ because you are a generous Prophet, a kind-natured brother, and you are the son of our kind and merciful brother; Allah Almighty has granted you power over us.”

Upon this, the Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم stated, “I will say to you the same thing which my brother Yusuf عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام said to his brothers (then the Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم recited the following blessed verse):

لَا تَثْرِیْبَ عَلَیْكُمُ الْیَوْمَؕ-یَغْفِرُ اللّٰهُ لَكُمْ٘-وَ هُوَ اَرْحَمُ الرّٰحِمِیْنَ(۹۲)

‘There is no reproach on you this day! May Allah forgive you – and He is the Utmost Merciful of all those who show mercy.’[1]

Go! You are all free.”[2]

سُـبْحٰـنَ الـلّٰــه! Look at the greatness of our beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم! He was persecuted and hurt in so many different ways during his preaching of Islam to the point that he even had to abandon his native land. Not only this, but even after his migration, he صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم was not left in peace; rather, the people put him into severe hardships and troubles. Despite all this, on the day of the Conquest of Makkah, when the Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم and his blessed companions رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُم gained dominance over Makkah, he صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم showed great forbearance and compassion and forgave them all rather than taking revenge.
