are in. If we plant within us a deep-rooted habit of thanking Allah Almighty, this will grow into a tree of huge blessings for us, اِنْ شَــآءَالـلّٰـه.

In this regard, Sayyiduna Ka’b رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ   said, Allah will grant a servant benefit through a bounty in this world and raise his rank in the Hereafter if when receiving a bounty, the servant thanks and expresses humility before Him. Whoever does not show thankfulness and humility before Allah upon being granted a bounty in this world will be stopped from receiving any benefit from it. As a result, a basin in the hellfire is opened for them. It is up to Allah whether He chooses to punish or forgive them.[1]

صَلُّوۡا عَلَى الۡحَبِيۡب                                                                 صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلٰى مُحَمَّد

The definition of thankfulness

Dear Islamic brothers, we should all thank Allah Almighty for every single bounty He has granted us. Expanding on this, حُجۃُ الاسلام, Imam Muhammad al-Ghazali رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه elaborates on the actual definition of thankfulness and says, “The meaning of thankfulness is to respect someone through your tongue, heart or body parts for the favour and bounty they bestowed upon you.”

The various ways we can be thankful

Imam al-Ghazali رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه further says regarding bounties from Allah that thankfulness of the heart is to intend good with whatever bounties you are granted. Thankfulness of the tongue is to praise and extol Him upon His bestowal. As for how to be thankful with the rest of the body, this is performed by utilising the bounties Allah has given you to worship Him and refrain from misusing them in disobedience.
