a mute person. Ultimately, our entire bodies themselves are the focal point of the bounties from God. Even the saliva in our mouths is a huge blessing from Allah Almighty, which we give no value to and consider to be insignificant. Once again, its true value can only be understood if we were to ask someone whose body does not generate the needed amount of saliva.

Thankfulness for the healthy bodies Allah Almighty has given us is not restricted to doing so verbally. Now, you may ask, “If being thankful is not restricted to what we say, what other ways can we express thankfulness to Allah Almighty for the health he has blessed our bodies with?” Let us listen to an interesting incident regarding this to find out more.

How do we show thankfulness for a sound, healthy body?

Reporting from a friend, Sayyiduna Muhammad bin Hani رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه    explains how a person once approached Sayyiduna Abu Haazim رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه    and asked, “O Abu Haazim! What is thankfulness for the eyes?” In reply, he said, “To convey further anything good you have seen with them, and to hide anything bad.” The person then asked, “What is thankfulness for the ears?”  Abu Haazim رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه replied, “To remember anything good you hear by means of them, and keep anything bad you hear hidden.”

The person continued, “What is thankfulness for the hands?” Abu Haazim رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه replied, “Do not use them to acquire that which is impermissible. Do not prevent them from fulfilling the rights that Allah Almighty has upon them.”

“What is thankfulness for the stomach?” and Abu Haazim رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه    explained, “Being thankful for the stomach means to have its lower section filled with food, but its uppermost section filled to the brim with knowledge.”
