In another blessed Hadith, in order to establish brotherhood and harmony, the Beloved and Blessed Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم has stated, ‘Do not be jealous of one another; do not bear malice and hatred towards one another and do not speak ill of one another behind each other’s backs, and O Slaves of Allah! Live as brothers.’ (Sahih Bukhari, Kitab-ul-Adab, vol. 4, p. 117, Hadith 6066)

 

The renowned commentator of the Quran, Mufti Ahmad Yar Khan Na’eemi رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه has stated: Evil assumptions, envy, malice etc., are those acts which diminish love, whereas Islamic brotherhood requires love, therefore, overcome these faults so that you become brothers.

So, we come to know that jealousy is such a heinous act that not only ruins our virtuous deeds but also breeds malice, hatred and enmity by destroying love & brotherhood amongst Muslims. Therefore, alongside all other internal diseases, we should also stay away from jealousy. In order to save ourselves from this destructive malady, let us listen to the definition of jealousy:

Shaykh-e-Tareeqat, Ameer-e-Ahl-e-Sunnat, the founder of Dawat-e-Islami, ‘Allamah Maulana Abu Bilal Muhammad Ilyas Attar Qadiri Razavi Ziyaee دَامَـتْ بَـرَكَـاتُـهُـمُ الْـعَـالِـيَـهْ has written on page 13 of his booklet ‘Causes of Bad End’: the definition of jealousy has mentioned thusly in volume 3, page 166 of the book Lisan-ul-Arab:

اَلۡحَسَدُ اَنۡ تَتَمَنّٰي زَوَالَ نِعۡمَةِ الۡمَحۡسُوۡدِ اِلَيۡك

Hasad (jealousy) means desiring the loss of the blessings of the Mahsood (the one towards whom jealousy is displayed) and desiring the same blessing for yourself.
