Remaining etiquettes of eating

*   If this Du’a is recited before eating, then even if the food contains poison, اِنْ شَــآءَالـلّٰـه its effects will no longer remain:

بِسْمِ اللّٰھِ الَّذِیْ لَا یَضُرُّ مَعَ اسْمِھٖ شَیْ ءٌ فِی الْاَرْضِ وَلَافِی السَّمَآءِ یَاحَیُّ یَاقَیُّوْمُ

(i.e. In the name of Allah, through the blessings of whose name nothing can cause harm in the heavens and the earth. O ever-living, o self-established). (Firdaus al-Akhbar, vol. 1, p. 274, Hadith 1955)

*   Eat with the right hand.

*   Eat from in front of you.

*   Do not find faults in the food, for example, it is not cooked properly, it is overcooked, for criticising food is Makruh and against the Sunnah, rather, if you feel like it, then eat, and if you do not, then don’t eat it.

*   A’la Hadrat, Imam Ahmad Raza Khan رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه writes: One should not criticise food even at home, for it is Makruh and opposes the Sunnah. It was the blessed habit of the Beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم that if he liked it, he would eat it, otherwise, not, and finding faults at
