Sunnahs and etiquettes of eating

Dear Islamic brothers! Let us hear the Sunnahs and etiquettes of eating from the book of Maktaba-tul-Madinah, known as, Sunnatayn aur Adab:

*   Before eating, wash your hands up to your wrists. The Beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم said, ‘Whosoever desires that Allah places more blessings in his home, he should perform Wudu when food is presented to him and when it is taken away.’ (Ibn-e-Majah, vol. 4, p. 9, Hadith 3260) Mufti Ahmad Yar Khan Na’eemi رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه writes: The meaning of this (Wudu for eating) is: Cleaning the mouth and hands; washing the hands and gargling. (Mirat-ul-Manajih, vol. 6, p. 32)

*   Remove your shoes before eating.

*   Recite ‘بِسۡمِ اللّٰہِ الرَّحۡمٰنِ الرَّحِیۡمِ’ before eating.

*   If you forget to recite ‘بِسۡمِ اللّٰہ’ at the start of eating, upon remembering, recite ‘بِسۡمِ اللّٰہِ اَوَّلَھٗ وَاٰخِرَھ’.
