Dear Islamic brothers! The topic of today’s Bayan is ‘The destructions of envy and its solution.’ First, we will hear an account about the terrifying consequences of a jealous individual. After this, we will hear the definition of envy, and some Quranic verses and Ahadith in its condemnation, who was the first to be envious, and the signs of this disease. Let us first listen to the account regarding the terrifying consequences.

Hunter became the hunted

It is stated on page 1 of the book ‘Hasad’ published by Maktaba-tul-Madina: There was a person who had the special privilege of attending the royal court of the king daily. He would stand before the king and give the advice, ‘Return the favour of anyone does you a favour upon you and do not bother about the one who does evil because for the one who is evil, his evil is sufficient for him.’ On account of his good advice, the king loved him dearly. Seeing the respect and love displayed by the king for this favoured person, a courtier got very jealous. Overcome with this jealousy and desiring to destroy the respect for this person, he went and lied to the king. ‘Your Majesty! This person talks bad things about you to other people saying that you have a bad breath.’ When the king heard this, he asked, ‘Do you have any proof?’ The jealous person replied, ‘Your Majesty! Call him close to you tomorrow and observe how he will cover his nose with his hand when you speak to him.’

The next day, the jealous man invited this favoured person to his house. The jealous man served him gravy that had excessive amount of raw garlic. After this meal, as was his routine, the favoured person went to the court of the king to advise him. The king called him closer. As he got closer to advise the king, he decided to place his hand over his mouth lest the bad smell of raw garlic offend the king. Seeing this,
