categories is according to the different intellectual capabilities of people. (Tafseer Baydawi, Parah 14, Surah An-Nahl, under the Verse 125, vol. 3, p. 245, derived from)
Within society, one will find doctors, engineer and lawyers. These are people of high intellectual capabilities. Giving an invitation of righteousness to them will require a different method and manner as compared to those who are uneducated or who have not studied to such a degree. Therefore, the one who gives an invitation towards goodness should speak in accordance with the intellectual capacity and mindset of who he is inviting. The Messenger of Allah صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم stated: ‘I have been instructed to speak with people in accordance with their intellect.’ (As-Sanni Al-Matalib, p. 123)
Dear Islamic brothers! Two particular words are stated in this verse:
1. Wisdom.
2. مَوْعِظَۂِ حَسَنَہ. What is wisdom? What is مَوْعِظَۂِ حَسَنَہ? The commentators of the Holy Quran have explained this subject in great detail:
* Imam Jalaluddin Suyuti رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه states: ‘The meaning of wisdom is the Holy Quran.’ (Tafseer Jalalayn, Parah 14, Surah An-Nahl, under the Verse 125)
By extension, it is as though the great Imam is saying: invite them towards righteousness and call them to the religion of Allah Almighty by reading them the verses of the Quran, disseminating the teachings of the Quran to them, through the proofs and evidences of the Quran, and by telling them of the wisdom mentioned in the Quran!
* ‘Allamah Baydawi رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه states: ‘The meaning of wisdom is, strong evidence.’ (Tafseer Baydawi, Parah 14, Surah An-Nahl, under the Verse 125)
