Book Name:Allah Walon Ki Seerat

thought-provoking story of the very famous Companion and the 2nd Caliph, Amir-ul-Mu’mineen Sayyiduna Farooq-e-A’zam رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ:

Offering Salah whilst wounded

It is written in ‘Faizan-e-Farooq-e-A’zam’, Chapter 1, Page 758: It was a habit of Amir-ul-Mu’mineen Sayyiduna Farooq-e-A’zam رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ to announce اَقِیْمُوْاصُفُوْفَکُمْ (i.e. straighten your rows) whenever he would stand for Salah. He would then start his Salah. Abu Lu’lu’ was also in the row. As soon as Sayyiduna Farooq-e-A’zam رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ started his Salah, that accursed person attacked him with a dagger and struck 3 vital blows. Due to this, Sayyiduna Farooq-e-A’zam رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ came to the ground whilst wounded. (Tareekh Ibn-e-Asakir, vol. 44, pp. 411)

His wound was so severe and deep that when he was given some sherbet (sweet beverage) to drink, the sherbet all came back out from the wounds. People thought that perhaps blood came out from the wounds. So, they gave him some milk to drink, which also came back out from the wounds. (Tabqat Kubra, vol. 3, pp. 259, summarised)

Even though he had been inflicted with such a severe wound, he ensured that he performed Salah even until his very last breath. Hence, Sayyiduna Miswar-Bin-Mahrama رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ states that when Sayyiduna Umar Farooq-e-A’zam رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ was injured, Sayyiduna Abdullah Ibn-e-Abbas (رَضِیَ اللهُ تَعَالٰی عَنْهُمَا) and I went to visit him. There was some cloth over him. We were talking between ourselves and said that he will only get up after hearing the word “Salah” and he will never get up for anything else. Therefore, we humbly said, “O Amir ul Mu’mineen! Salah!” After hearing this, Sayyiduna Umar Farooq-e-A’zam       رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ got up and said: “By Allah عَزَّوَجَلَّ! Whosoever does not offer Salah has no part in Islam.” He then performed Salah whilst he was wounded. (Musannaf Ibn-e-Abi Shaybah, vol. 8, pp. 579, Hadees 12)
