Information from people about practicing Muslims

Ameer-ul-Mu`mineen, Sayyiduna ‘Umar Farooq-e-A’zam رَضِىَ اللهُ تَعَالٰی عَـنْهُ would get information from the people about their practices. Two narrations are presented here:

1.         Ameer-ul-Mu`mineen, Sayyiduna ‘Umar Farooq-e-A’zam رَضِىَ اللهُ تَعَالٰی عَـنْهُ did not only call delegations from different areas, but he رَضِىَ اللهُ تَعَالٰی عَـنْهُ asked about different matters of their rulers as well. When delegations would come to him, he رَضِىَ اللهُ تَعَالٰی عَـنْهُ would ask questions like this: How is         your ruler? Does he inquire after the slaves? Does he attend funeral processions? Is his door soft or hard? (i.e. Does it remain open to deliver the subjects from oppression or closed?)

If the delegates made this answer that he would listen to the poor and oppressed people and also inquire after the slaves, so he رَضِىَ اللهُ تَعَالٰی عَـنْهُ would leave the ruler; otherwise he رَضِىَ اللهُ تَعَالٰی عَـنْهُ would dismiss him by sending him a message. 2. Ameer-ul-Mu`mineen, Sayyiduna ‘Umar Farooq-e-A’zam رَضِىَ اللهُ تَعَالٰی عَـنْهُ would know this thing by virtue of his insight that sometimes subjects due to the intimidating personality of their ruler cannot say anything in his presence, therefore when he رَضِىَ اللهُ تَعَالٰی عَـنْهُ would send a messenger to a ruler or governor, so he would order him to make this announcement to the people: If anyone wants to send a personal letter to Ameer-ul-Mu`mineen (رَضِىَ اللهُ تَعَالٰی عَـنْهُ), so he can give it to me I will take it to him. The messenger himself even did not know what was written in the letter.

Consequently, if anyone among the subjects had any complaint from his concerned ruler, so it would reach Ameer-ul-Mu’mineen رَضِىَ اللهُ تَعَالٰی عَـنْهُ directly. It means he رَضِىَ اللهُ تَعَالٰی عَـنْهُ made a proper way for the people to
