Ways to Strengthen Relation with ALLAH عَزَّ وَجَلَّ

Dear Islamic brothers! The ultimate goal of Islam is to connect a man with his God. This connection establishes the moment one enters into the fold of Islam and reverts to his Lord with sincerity. If one stays steadfast on faith and does those actions which please Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ), the every coming moment this connection becomes stronger and stronger and it carries on until he leaves this world and he meets his Creator عَزَّ وَجَلَّ while He (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) is pleased with him.

In this small piece of writing, we will learn what are those actions which help us strengthen this relation with Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) and keep us on the right track.

The sincere repentance

The true repentance is a means to attain the pleasure of Allah(عَزَّ وَجَلَّ). Without it, one can never taste the sweetness of the faith. According to The holy Al Quran, when one makes sincere repentance and makes his habit to turn to his Lord after every misdeed, he becomes beloved of Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ). Quran says,

“Allah loves those who are constantly repentant and loves those who purify themselves."

(2:222)

Sins: a great obstacle
The most destructive thing in this regard is the disobedience to Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ). Every sin that one commits leaves a blot on his heart and if he carries on this vicious habit of committing sins, his whole heart is covered by these blots. The heart of sinners, subsequently, turns sick and loses the privilege of having a strong connection with Allah(عَزَّ وَجَلَّ). The only remedy to get health, in this case, is to quit the sins at once. and make sincere repentance. The following hadith mention it

The Prophet Muhammad (صَلَّی اللہُ تَعَالٰی عَلَیْہِ وَاٰلِہٖ وَسَلَّمَ), said, “Verily, when a bondman commits a sin a black spot appears on his heart. If he quits the sin, seeks forgiveness, and repents, then his heart will be polished. If he returns to the sin, the blackness will be increased until it covers his heart. It is the covering that Allah has mentioned: No, but on their hearts is a covering because of what they have earned.”

May Almighty Allah save us from sins.

Performing the obligatory actions

The other most effective factor to strengthen the relation with Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) is to act upon every farz and wajib i.e. the obligatory actions. Like prayers, fasting and zakat etc.

The following hadith is enough to understand the significance of prayers in Muslim’s life: “Say, if there were a river at the door of one of you in which he takes a bath five times a day, would any dirt remain on him?” They replied, “No dirt would left on him.” He (صَلَّی اللہُ تَعَالٰی عَلَیْہِ وَاٰلِہٖ وَسَلَّمَ) said, ” That is the five (obligatory) Salat (prayers). Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) obliterates all sins as a result of performing them.”

Zikr: The remembrance of Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ)
The remembrance of Allah is one of those actions which are the most effective in this regard. And why not when it bears witness to our love for Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ). An Arabic proverb says,

من احب شئیا اکثر ذکرہ

“You remember the most you love the most.”

And indeed a Muslim’s love for Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) is more than anything else.

A hadith al Qudsi says,

انا جلیس من ذکرنی

“I am companion to the one who remembers me”

Now it is up to us how much we want to be in the company of Allah. The more we remember Him the more blessings of His company we would gain.

Keeping good company

Another habit to be adopted in order to strengthen the connection with Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ), is to keep a good company. Every wise man is well aware of the influence of the company we keep. Many innocent children turned into criminal beasts just because of sitting in the company of murderers, thieves and drug addicts. And many hard hearted sinners became pious just by sitting in the company of righteous and God-fearing people. Now it is up to us what we want to be.

صحبت صالح ترا صالح کند صحبت طالح ترا طالح کند

Translation: Keeping the company of pious makes you pious and keeping the company of wicked makes you wicked.
