Surah Yasin Ayat 47 Translation Tafseer

Para 23 - وَ مَا لِیَ

سورة يس

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ

36.47

وَ اِذَا قِیْلَ لَهُمْ اَنْفِقُوْا مِمَّا رَزَقَكُمُ اللّٰهُۙ-قَالَ الَّذِیْنَ كَفَرُوْا لِلَّذِیْنَ اٰمَنُوْۤا اَنُطْعِمُ مَنْ لَّوْ یَشَآءُ اللّٰهُ اَطْعَمَهٗۤ ﳓ اِنْ اَنْتُمْ اِلَّا فِیْ ضَلٰلٍ مُّبِیْنٍ(47)

Kanz-ul-Irfan

And when it is said to them, “Spend ˹in charity˺ from that which Allah has provided you”, the disbelievers say to the Muslims, “Should we feed the one whom, if Allah willed, He would have fed? [1] You are only in clear misguidance.”

Commentary

Out of sympathy, the Muslims said to the disbelievers of Quraysh that the wealth which they have put aside for the sake of Allah Almighty should be spent on the poor. They responded by asking why they should feed the one whom Allah would have fed if He willed. They believed that if Allah Almighty has decreed for certain people to remain poor, then to feed them would be contrary to His will. This is a poor excuse made by miserly people and is nothing but false. Allah Almighty has made some people rich and others poor, so that the rich can fulfil His command by spending on the poor, and so that the poor are patient upon their poverty. All of this is His wisdom and His will concerning His creation, and nobody has the right to object to it.
