eat something haram. In this manner, it is difficult for a hasty person to avoid sin, and if he cannot avoid sin, how will he amend his heart? Rather than being cleansed, his heart will only continue to deepen in darkness.
A person must not be hasty. He must use wisdom and stop to think before each thing he does. One great way to do this, is to stop for a few seconds before doing something permissible and make good intentions. By doing this, a person will multiply the reward they earn. The intention of pleasing Allah will then accompany a person’s every action, and their heart will quickly become pure اِنْ شَــآءَالـلّٰـه.
The fourth major cause of a hard heart is arrogance. This is to consider oneself superior to others. This is a severely destructive spiritual disease. Allah forbid, if arrogance becomes firmly rooted in someone’s character, getting rid of it is near impossible. Sometimes, a person’s heart is sealed entirely because of it.
Allah says in His Quran:
کَذٰلِکَ یَطۡبَعُ اللّٰہُ عَلٰی کُلِّ قَلۡبِ مُتَکَبِّرٍ جَبَّارٍ (۳۵)
This is how Allah seals the heart of every arrogant, rebellious person.[1]
Arrogance leads to the heart being sealed, so one should avoid this at all costs and become humble instead. A hadith explains:
مَنْ تَوَاضَعَ للہِ رَفَعَہُ اللہُ
“Whoever is humble for Allah is granted loftiness by Him.”[2]
