Causes of Poverty in Sustenance
from sins, then there will be so great prosperity in our society and blessings in our sustenance that we cannot even think about it. Allah عَزَّوَجَلَّ has said:
یُؤْمِنُ بِاللّٰهِ وَ الْیَوْمِ الْاٰخِرِ۬ؕ-وَ مَنْ یَّتَّقِ اللّٰهَ یَجْعَلْ لَّهٗ مَخْرَجًاۙ(۲) وَّ یَرْزُقْهُ مِنْ حَیْثُ لَا یَحْتَسِبُؕ-وَ مَنْ یَّتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى اللّٰهِ فَهُوَ حَسْبُهٗؕ-
Translation from Kanz-ul-Iman: Whoever fears Allah – Allah will create for him a way of deliverance and will provide him with sustenance from the place that he had not thought about. And whoever relies on Allah – then Allah is Sufficient for him. (Part 28, Surah At-Talaaq, Ayah 2, 3)
صَلُّوۡا عَلَى الۡحَبِيۡب صَلَّى اللّٰهُ تَعَالٰى عَلٰى مُحَمَّد
Dear Islamic brothers! Not paying Zakah is also one of the causes of decrease in sustenance and economic decline. Remember! Zakah is a basic pillar of Islam and an extremely important act of worship related to wealth. It is an effective system which benefits the poor and the destitute people of society. If all wealthy people pay Zakah correctly, poverty and destitution would vanish. The Holy Quran strongly warns those not paying Zakah. Allah عَزَّوَجَلَّ has said:
وَ الَّذِیْنَ یَكْنِزُوْنَ الذَّهَبَ وَ الْفِضَّةَ وَ لَا یُنْفِقُوْنَهَا فِیْ سَبِیْلِ اللّٰهِۙ-فَبَشِّرْهُمْ بِعَذَابٍ اَلِیْمٍۙ(۳۴)
Translation from Kanz-ul-Iman: And those who hoard up gold and silver and do not spend it in Allah’s way – so give them the glad tidings of painful punishment. (Part 10, Surah At-Taubah, Ayah 34)
