Book Name:Farooq e Azam ki Aajazi

Wearing beautiful clothes on special occasions like Friday and Eid is Mubah (permissible), however, one should not wear such clothes daily, because he might start feeling proud and will boast as well as look down upon the poor who are deprived of such clothing. Therefore, one should avoid such clothing. Clothes which are worn out of arrogance is prohibited. One can find out whether he feels arrogant or not by focusing the attention to the inner state. If the inner state remains as it was even after wearing the clothes, it means that these clothes do not bring out arrogance. On the other hand, if the former state does not exist anymore, then it means that he is overpowered by arrogance. Therefore, he should avoid wearing such clothing, as arrogance is an extremely bad characteristic. (Rad-dul-Muhtar, vol. 9, pp. 579)
