accept your wrongs and give due credit to his correct opinion and make Du’a for him e.g. you are right, may Allah عَزَّوَجَلَّ bless you with its reward!’ Though this is very difficult for the Nafs, to admit your mistake on such occasions, but by doing this repeatedly, it will become your habit and you will also get rid of the evil of arrogance, اِنْ شَــآءَالـلّٰـه عَزَّوَجَلَّ.

Confession of a mistake!

When the glorious Muhaddis, Imam Dar-e-Qutni رَحْمَةُ اللهِ تَعَالٰی عَلَيْه was a very young student, one day he went to the Dars-Gah (learning centre) of Sayyiduna Imam Anbaari رَحْمَةُ اللهِ تَعَالٰی عَلَيْه. Imam Anbaari رَحْمَةُ اللهِ تَعَالٰی عَلَيْه made a mistake in getting the name of a narrator written. Sayyiduna Dar-e-Qutni رَحْمَةُ اللهِ تَعَالٰی عَلَيْه did not point this out to Imam Anbaari رَحْمَةُ اللهِ تَعَالٰی عَلَيْه out of respect for him, but informed the one who used to convey his voice to his pupils. The next Friday Imam Dar-e-Qutni رَحْمَةُ اللهِ تَعَالٰی عَلَيْه again went to the Majlis-e-Dars, (now look at the enthusiasm of honesty and selflessness of Imam Anbaari رَحْمَةُ اللهِ تَعَالٰی عَلَيْه), he made this announcement in front of a huge gathering: On that day, I had made a mistake with so-and-so name, this young student has informed me of it. 7. Do not become a student for a prominent status!

Dear Islamic brothers! In order to become humble, take precaution that whenever we are with our companions or in a gathering, we should never have this desire in the heart that I should be given a prominent status, I should be allowed to sit on a high platform and I must be given enough respect. However, if somebody himself offers you a seat at a prominent place, then there is no harm in accepting it.

Once, Ameer-ul-Mu`mineen, Sayyiduna Maula ‘Ali-ul-Murtada کَرَّمَ اللّٰهُ تَعَالٰی وَجْهَهُ الْکَرِيْم sat at a certain place. The host offered him a seat of honour. He sat on it and said: Perhaps, that person is a fool who does not accept a thing of honour.
