    the intention of IꜤtikāf.[1]

    3. The foremost goal of performing IꜤtikāf in Ramadan is the search for Laylat al-Qadr (the Night of Power).[2]

    4. The most virtuous masjid for IꜤtikāf is Masjid al-Ḥarām, then Masjid al-Nabawī عَلٰی صَاحِبِھَا الصَّلاۃُ وَ السَّلام, then Masjid al-Aqṣā, and then the masjid in which the largest congregation gathers.[3]

    5. A muꜤtakif receives the reward for virtuous deeds he is unable to perform due to his seclusion—such as visiting graves, meeting fellow Muslims, visiting the sick, or attending funeral prayers—as though he had performed them.[4]

    6. Islamic sisters should perform IꜤtikāf in Masjid al-Bayt. This refers to the area within the home designated for prayer.[5]

    7. During IꜤtikāf, one is permitted to leave the masjid for only two reasons:

    1. Ḥājat SharꜤī (Legal Necessity): For example, leaving to perform the Friday prayer.

    2. Ḥājat ṬabꜤī (Natural Necessity).[6]
