Ikhtiyarat e Mustafa

Book Name:Ikhtiyarat e Mustafa

Islamic law, handed all its rulings to His Messenger صَلَّی اللہُ تَعَالٰی عَلَیْہِ وَاٰلِہٖ وَسَلَّمَ , so that he may modify, add, or explain them as he wishes.[1]

It is incumbent upon us to hold perfect belief and faith not only in the other virtues and excellences of the Prophet of Allah صَلَّی اللہُ تَعَالٰی عَلَیْہِ وَاٰلِہٖ وَسَلَّمَ , but also in his authority.

We must never entertain the notion that only what the Quran declares as halal is permissible, or only what the Quran declares as haram is forbidden. Instead, our faith must include that the sayings and commands of the Prophet صَلَّی اللہُ تَعَالٰی عَلَیْہِ وَاٰلِہٖ وَسَلَّمَ serve as a proof and authority in declaring something halal or haram, just like the Quran itself.

Indeed, the Prophet صَلَّی اللہُ تَعَالٰی عَلَیْہِ وَاٰلِہٖ وَسَلَّمَ warned the unfortunate ones who questioned his authority, saying:

It is possible that a person may sit on his seat and, after quoting one of my hadith, says, “Between us and you is the Book of Allah, the Quran. We will only consider halal what is mentioned halal in it, and only consider haram what is mentioned haram in it.”

اَلَا وَاِنَّ مَا حَـرَّمَ رَسْوْلُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِثْلَ مَا حَـرَّمَ اللهُ  - Know! Whatever the Messenger of Allahصَلَّی اللہُ تَعَالٰی عَلَیْہِ وَاٰلِہٖ وَسَلَّمَ forbids is also forbidden, just as if Allah Himself had forbidden it.[2]
