Book Name:Quran Kitab-e-Hidayat Hai
was such a dangerous highway robber that he would rob the entire caravan alone.
Once, a caravan passed by his area, and night fell, so it had to stay there. When he arrived near the caravan with the intention to raid it, he heard some members of the caravan saying, ‘Do not go towards this town, and take another route instead. There is a dangerous robber named Fudayl who lives here.’ When he heard the voice of the people of the caravan, he trembled with fear and said out aloud, ‘O people! I am Fudayl Bin ‘Iyaad, present in front of you. Pass through this area without any fear of danger; you are safe from me. I swear to Allah Almighty! From today onwards I will never disobey Allah Almighty.’
Having said this, he رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه left and repented of all his past sins, and started following the right path. It is also stated that on that night, he رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه invited the members of the caravan and said, ‘Consider yourselves safe from Fudayl Bin ‘Iyaad.’ He رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه then went to get the food for their animals. Upon his return, he رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه heard someone reciting this blessed verse of the Holy Quran:
اَلَمْ یَاْنِ لِلَّذِیْنَ اٰمَنُوْۤا اَنْ تَخْشَعَ قُلُوْبُهُمْ لِذِكْرِ اللّٰهِ
Has the time not come for the believers to humble their hearts to Allah's remembrance
[Kanz-ul-Iman (translation of Quran)] (Part 27, Surah Al-Hadeed, Verse 16)
This blessed verse of the Holy Quran pierced his heart. He رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه began weeping bitterly, and whilst putting dust on his clothes, he said, ‘Yes! Why not! By Allah Almighty! Now the time has come, now the time has come.’ He رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه continued to weep like this and then repented of all his past sins. (‘Uyoon-ul-Hikayaat, vol. 2, p. 17)
