Virtue of tolerating and forgiving

   ۔1The Holy Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم has stated: ‘Whoever has 3 things within him, Allah عَزَّوَجَلَّ will take his accountability with great ease (on the Day of Judgement) and will make him enter Paradise through His mercy.’ The blessed companions عَـلَيْهِمُ الرِّضْوَانْ asked: ‘O Prophet of Allahصَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم! What are those things?’ He صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّمreplied: ‘(1) Give to the person who deprives you, (2) Maintain ties with those who cut them off with you and (3) Forgive those who oppress you.’ (Mu’jam Awsat, vol. 4, pp. 18, Hadees no. 5064)

   ۔2The Holy Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم has stated: ‘Knowledge is gained through learning, tolerance is gained through bearing difficulties, and whoever tries to attain goodness, he is given goodness and whoever wants to refrain from evil, he will be protected from it.’ (Tareekh-e-Madinah Damascus, Raqm 2162, Rija Bin Haiwiyyah, vol. 18, pp. 98)

   ۔3The Holy Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم has stated: ‘5 things are a Sunnah of noble prophets عَـلَـيْهِمُ السَّلَام; one of them is also tolerance.’ (Mawsu’ah Al-Imam Ibn Abi Dunya, vol. 2, pp. 24, Hadees no. 6)

   ۔4The Holy Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم has stated: ‘Verily, a person attains the status of a fasting person and a person who stays awake all night (for worship) due to tolerance.’ (Mawsu’ah Al Imam Ibn Abi Dunya, vol. 2, pp. 27, Hadees no. 8)

   ۔5The Holy Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم has stated: ‘Whoever forgives the mistake of a Muslim, Allah عَزَّوَجَلَّ will forgive his mistake on the Day of Judgement.’ (Ibn-e-Majah, vol. 3, pp. 36, Hadees no. 2199)

   ۔6A person came to the court of the Holy Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم and humbly said: ‘O Prophet of Allah صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم! How many times should we forgive a servant?’ The Holy Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم remained silent. The person asked the same question again. The Holy Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم remained silent again. When the same question was asked for the 3^rd time, the Holy Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم replied: ‘70 times daily.’(Tirmizi, vol. 3, pp. 381, Hadees no. 1956)
