Repentance of a dangerous thief

A person who was sentenced with imprisonment in the jail of Hyderabad, Pakistan, was once a very dangerous thief. His fear was instilled within people. He was an excellent fighter and he had fought the police many times.

Eventually, the police managed to arrest him. It was his good fortune that      he gained the good company of the Islamic brothers of the department ‘Faizan-e-Quran’ of Dawat-e-Islami, the Madani movement of the devotees of the Prophet.

Through the blessing of individual effort of the preacher of Dawat-e-Islami, he managed to learn the entire Quran in Madrasa-e-Faizan-e-Quran in jail. He learnt how to offer ‘Salah’, and also memorised the 6 Kalimahs, Iman-e-Mufassal, Iman-e-Mujmal and the last 10 Surahs.

After this, he started a new life in which there was no space for crime. He himself said: ‘The Madani environment of Dawat-e-Islami and kindness of the Islamic brothers awoke my sleeping conscience and enabled me to change for the better.

O devotees of the Awliya! One enlightened perspective from the blessed life of the famous personality of the Hanbali school of thought, Imam Ahmad Bin Hanbal رَحْمَةُ اللهِ عَلَيْه, is also that he loved the acts of worshipping Allah عَزَّوَجَلَّ, such as Salah, fasts and recitation of the Holy Quran immensely.

His love and affection for worshipping Allah عَزَّوَجَلَّ was such that even after bearing the dangerous and extremely painful punishment of being whipped, his spirit was still high and offering Nawafil [optional prayers] in abundance was a part of his blessed routine. Let’s listen to the views of our pious predecessors رَحِمَهُمُ الـلّٰـه regarding Imam Ahmad Bin Hanbal’s رَحْمَةُ اللهِ عَلَيْه passion for worship:
